The National Special Education Advocacy Institute, NSEAI, has been offering  BCEA™ trainings since 2008.  They offered the first and the only national Board Certified Education Advocate program.  This nationally recognized program is available for the benefit of parents & leaders in the education advocacy field, such as yourself.

COURSE TITLE:           100 – SPECIAL EDUCATION PROCESS  

DURATION:               16.21 hours

Lecture 5.21 hours in 16 videos with out of class assignments of 11.00 hours 
Academic institutions may accept 1.62 quarter credit hours or a no-credit / non-certification grade per course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is the first of 12 courses in a National Special Education Advocacy Training NSEAT™ program.  It may stand-alone or be combined with the full 12 course program as the education prerequisite to the NSEAI Board Certified Education Advocate™ application.  This course was developed as a collegiate level course and is offered for continuing education credits at this location.

This course provides a broad introduction to the field of Special Education and it’s history and current regulations.  Students are introduced to the major areas of Disability Rights.   They are introduced to Special Education law theories and concepts, as well as the history and major figures of the field.  Students acquire skills to understand rights and obligations relating to accommodations as provided under the U.S. Constitution’s - 14th Amendment, IDEA, FERPA, Fair Housing Act, Air Carrier Access Act, Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act, National Voter Registration Act, Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act, Architectural Barriers Act, NCLB -200, HIPAA -1996, Child Find, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973.  

This course is designed to expand parental and professional education advocacy skills with a broad knowledge base.  It provides information to students with disabilities, parents of children with disabilities, educators, lawyers, state and federal agencies and related service providers on advocacy skills related to accommodation needs, recent legislation pertaining to disability rights and how they can change public attitudes and perceptions about those with disabilities.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
After completing the program, participants will:

•    Develop a basic understanding of Federal laws and landmark legal cases
     related to special education
•    Understand the difference between statutes and regulations
•    Understand roles and qualifications of those who participate in school meetings
•    Identify the key difference between IEP meetings, Informal Meetings, Mediation,
