The National Special Education Advocacy Institute, NSEAI, has been offering  BCEA™ trainings since 2008. They offered the first and the only national Board Certified Education Advocate program. This nationally recognized program is available for the benefit of parents & leaders in the education advocacy field, such as yourself.

COURSE TITLE:                 1000 – Behavioral Issues and Management

DURATION:         17.2 hours

Lecture 6.2 hours in 22 videos with out of class assignments of 11.00 hours 
Academic institutions may accept 1.72 quarter credit hours or a no-credit / non-certification grade per course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is the tenth of 12 classes in a National Special Education Advocacy Training NSEAT™ program. It may stand-alone or be combined with the full 12-class program as the education prerequisite to the NSEAI Board Certified Education Advocate™ application.   This course was developed as a collegiate level course and is offered for continuing education credits at this location.

This course provides a broad introduction to understanding student behavioral issues and appropriate research based behavioral interventions.   An introduction to unique behavior vocabulary and definitions is provided with an overview of national trends. Functions of Behaviors, Factors Affecting Behavior and Behavioral Areas of Need, Services & Specially Designed Instruction are reviewed.  Essential components of a behavioral assessment and the difference between a Functional Analysis and a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) are discussed.   Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBS), Behavioral Improvement Plan (BIP) and Crisis Intervention Plans are outlined. The benefits and appropriate use of Intensive Behavior Interventions (IBI) are reviewed. Home based programming, and the criteria for needs are outlined. Eight research based behavioral programs using Applied Behavior Analysis and their essential components are reviewed. The manifestation determination process and necessary advocacy skills are outlined.  

This course is designed to expand parental and professional education advocacy skills with a broad knowledge base related to behaviors, behavioral interventions and the manifestation determination process. This course provides information to students with disabilities, parents of children with disabilities, educators, lawyers, paralegals, state and federal agencies and related service providers on research based behavioral programs and interventions and their use.
